Emergencies with Arkansas Orthodontic Service
You can contact our office as soon as possible if you lose or break any of your appliances. By calling us, Dr. K will be able to create time to see you. Please do not come directly to the office. If you need any appliance repaired, contact our office as soon as possible, even if you have a regular appointment scheduled. If you need instant medical attention, dial 911.
For professional advice, contact our office immediately. If a bracket or wire is loosened, the bracket or wire may need to be re-fitted urgently. In the event of an emergency—such as needing to cut a wire or slide a bracket off at night or over the weekend—you may use sterilized fingernail clippers that have been washed in alcohol to safely trim the wire. Contact our office on the next business day so that we may schedule an appointment for you.
By moving the wire away from the irritated area with a cotton swab or eraser, it eases the discomfort caused by a wire on your braces, or you can cover the end with a little cotton or wax. You can cut the wire with alcohol-sterilized nail clippers or scissors. If you cannot resolve the wire irritation, call our office for an appointment.
A lot of patients lose their separator while treatment is being done, but do not worry about losing a separator. If your separator needs to be replaced, call our office as soon as possible.
You may experience some discomfort, soreness, or pain during the first week after your braces are placed and following routine adjustments, but this is normal, and your mouth will gradually adjust to the new braces.
You may take non-aspirin pain relievers or acetaminophen to reduce the soreness in your jaw. Or you may use a heating pad or a warm washcloth.
